Fun, escapist dating reality show plot with a twist。

This one didn’t land for me。 The suspension of disbelief just wouldn’t kick in- why are children on this show?! Why was this a YA? How many exes can one collect in adolescence? That being said, it’s cute and I’m sure lots of readers will enjoy it!Thank you so much for the eArc Netgalley & Wednesday Books!

So much better than The Bachelor!! Loved this LGBTQ+ friendly take on an exhausted reality TV franchise。 It was a little hard to keep track of which character was narrating, especially as Skye and Maya's friendship blossomed, and their journey started to meld。 But it was such a fun, exciting, and raw read。 So much better than The Bachelor!! I was really enjoying the premise but I think somewhere in the execution it just kind of became meh to me。 I love the concept of the reality/trashy TV Bachelor with their "second chance" romance theme and having these ex's kind of forming a sisterhood in the vain of John Tucker Must Die (2006) with a blooming romance à la Legend of Korra。 Its a hodgepodge of everything that could turn this into a awesome rom-com but the excitement level fizzled out for me pretty quick。Maya agrees to participatin I was really enjoying the premise but I think somewhere in the execution it just kind of became meh to me。 I love the concept of the reality/trashy TV Bachelor with their "second chance" romance theme and having these ex's kind of forming a sisterhood in the vain of John Tucker Must Die (2006) with a blooming romance à la Legend of Korra。 Its a hodgepodge of everything that could turn this into a awesome rom-com but the excitement level fizzled out for me pretty quick。Maya agrees to participating on this reality show for "revenge" and she makes it her mission to make Jordy fall in love with her and then dump him/out his horrible qualities on TV。 Which dies like a couple hours into day 1。 I think that's where my enjoyment went down a peg, the fact that our leading ladies couldn't keep an act up。 The Editors of this show had their work cut out for them because it must of taken hours of editing to come up with content that convinced audiences at home these people were falling in love。 Or maybe I don't watch enough reality TV but it seemed like the longer Maya and eventually Skye spend around Jordy the more they show how uninterested/ disgusted/ resentful they are towards him I just want to know where the good shots are, maybe it's all in voiceover。 They do have six ladies and seven weeks of content, so I guess they don't need much screen time。 But I'm suppose to be convinced that they became finalist? Then there's Jordy who makes a lot of cringe/sketch remarks and he does get directed to do reshoots and they feed him lines which is part of displaying the image on TV。 From that point it made sense that this show wasn't about a second chance romance it's just a backdrop for screen time。 Okay cool。 Not what I thought I was getting but I'll roll with it。 My biggest issue is how one dimensional these characters are。 How cringe and exaggerated Jordy was。 Every time he opens his mouth and says "chick" I want to gag。 The overall dialogue was kind of cringe。 Then there's the fact that sharing an ex became Maya and Skye's personality。 In the beginning I could distinguish their POVs because of the writing style。 Whenever Skye was on the page, she usually describes the ambiance of the room, the smell, the scenery。 But the more chapters we go through, especially after she's not getting along with Maya, I stopped being able to tell them apart。 If the plot was gripping my attention I wouldn't really care for surface level characters, but I ended up not really caring about anything。If I cared more about these characters then it would have a bigger impact when Maya finds herself in a quandary。 (view spoiler)[Choosing between executing her revenge or dropping it and moving forward with her life。 But Honestly at this point, I choose revenge!!! I sat through way too many pages for her to not get the revenge。 The audacity of Skye making Maya feel bad about making her choice。 I was rooting for them up until these shenanigans! Get off your high horse! how selfish is it to give someone you "love" an ultimatum of revenge vs。 last week in a hotel。 Skye is into living that nomad/backpacking lifestyle and makes a conscious choice to not give it up because if someone wants her they need to chase after her, going to college is for losers。 Choosing College because your ex-boyfriend thinks you're too stupid is even more stupid than the other reasons people choose to go to college, don't step into Elle Woods shoes。 Well, that's a little out of context, but sue me, I've been around Gwendolyn and Isaac for too long。Honestly the best "revenge" was to take the attention off of Jordy。 Which made for that worthy ending。 I don't even know if it was intentional or not because it seems like Maya stumbled on it by accident。 Which makes the grand gesture more genuine? (hide spoiler)]This book needed more Isaac and more Perrie。Honestly, I just need to stop myself before I lower the book rating, I picked this up without knowing what it was about and I guess as I made progress I was picturing a different narrative in my head, and the more I think about things I don't like the more upset I get so just gonna end it there。It was an interesting concept and I think the ending was beautiful。 How's that?do another take?["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

Jordy was a douche and I don't understand how either Maya or Skye would want to get back together with him。 I'm glad Skye got with the program (Maya's program that is) and I'm very happy with the book's resolution。 Jordy was a douche and I don't understand how either Maya or Skye would want to get back together with him。 I'm glad Skye got with the program (Maya's program that is) and I'm very happy with the book's resolution。 。。。more

This is a case of "I really should have read the blurp。。。" because this wasn't plausible in the least in my opinion。 How would a 18 year old want to get back with an ex enough to participate in a bachelorette kinda show?I really should have actually read this book because the audio version was very confusing。 I kept forgetting the changes of narrators。 I couldn't remember who was who with that many similar feeling characters。。。 This is a case of "I really should have read the blurp。。。" because this wasn't plausible in the least in my opinion。 How would a 18 year old want to get back with an ex enough to participate in a bachelorette kinda show?I really should have actually read this book because the audio version was very confusing。 I kept forgetting the changes of narrators。 I couldn't remember who was who with that many similar feeling characters。。。 。。。more

DNF at 130 pages。Nothing about this was going to work for me because I have no tolerance for groups of girls standing around being bitchy to each other and occasionally throwing around the word "feminism" to distract you from the fact that MC hates the other MC who "cheated" with the love interest, but doesn't hate the love interest nearly as much for it。 Blame the girl, right。 Also both girl MCs felt interchangeable in tone/voice, and the entire main cast felt like names on a page。 Zero need fo DNF at 130 pages。Nothing about this was going to work for me because I have no tolerance for groups of girls standing around being bitchy to each other and occasionally throwing around the word "feminism" to distract you from the fact that MC hates the other MC who "cheated" with the love interest, but doesn't hate the love interest nearly as much for it。 Blame the girl, right。 Also both girl MCs felt interchangeable in tone/voice, and the entire main cast felt like names on a page。 Zero need for their to be a whole fictional country and royal family too, because there was no world building to make it meaningful。 It just felt like another thing thrown in there。Also this is not YA。 It opens in a bar。 Two chapters in they're all getting drunk on the show。 It is about adult problems and adult situations。 The love interest is 20。 Publishers marketing adult books as YA is infuriating and ungenuine to their audiences。 。。。more

I wish I liked this book more than I did。 It was a cool concept but I feel like it wasn’t executed well。 First, I don’t really understand why the age group was 18-21 for this type of reality show? It made it feel unrealistic and also just weird to read?? I feel like it would’ve gone better with older adults like mid 20s-30s。 Also, every character was extremely unlikable at least once (except maybe perrie and isaac)。 I also had a really hard time telling the difference between Maya and Skye’s POV I wish I liked this book more than I did。 It was a cool concept but I feel like it wasn’t executed well。 First, I don’t really understand why the age group was 18-21 for this type of reality show? This book had the potential to be really good in its genre。 As it is, I feel that both the main characters and their romance lack depth。 They have backgrounds, but those don't influence their actions anywhere near enough。 Also, for a book that's supposed to be all girl power I would have hoped for a bit more body positivity, a bit less focus on looks。 Still, fun read I got through in a day, so will keep an eye out on the writer! This book fucking stressed me out, especially with all the secondhand embarrassment and dramatic irony early on, but I had a hard time putting it down。 Thankfully, the second half didn't rely on those things so much, and overall I found the book really fun and satisfying。 This book fucking stressed me out, especially with all the secondhand embarrassment and dramatic irony early on, but I had a hard time putting it down。 Thankfully, the second half didn't rely on those things so much, and overall I found the book really fun and satisfying。 。。。more

I can't say no to a book that gives me behind the scenes reality tv drama, and I can't say no to gay literature- so here we are。Maya and Skye share a famous ex, Jordy, who has invited both of them to join him on a new reality show exploring his relationships with old flames。 Skye has joined in hopes to get clarity about her time with Jordy and maybe to work things out, while Maya has only one goal: revenge。 Things quickly take a turn when Maya and Skye realize that the sparks flying between them I can't say no to a book that gives me behind the scenes reality tv drama, and I can't say no to gay literature- so here we are。Maya and Skye share a famous ex, Jordy, who has invited both of them to join him on a new reality show exploring his relationships with old flames。 Skye has joined in hopes to get clarity about her time with Jordy and maybe to work things out, while Maya has only one goal: revenge。 Things quickly take a turn when Maya and Skye realize that the sparks flying between them are about more than jealousy。 As Jordy shows his true colors off-camera and the connection between Maya and Skye grows, things could get messy- and this time, there will be an audience。Sophie Gonzales has said that this book was born of rage first and comedy second, and she has married the two together so well here。 It's abundantly clear this book was written by an author with a fire under them, and I really liked the intensity it brought- especially with the justified anger the main characters felt at different times。 The premise was just perfect for me, and the leads were both amazing in their own unique ways。Thanks so much to Wednesday Books and Macmillan Audio as well as NetGalley for the advanced listening copy in exchange for my honest thoughts。 。。。more
